Tending Our Roots, Growing Toward the Future

Did you know that John Wimber, the founder of the Vineyard movement, once said that the purpose of the Vineyard movement could be summed up with two words: “worship” and “compassion“?

With that inspiration, we’ve been working on some exciting new developments that will help integrate our anti-trafficking mission with parallel movements, namely anti-poverty and environmental justice.

making the connections:

human trafficking * poverty * environment

We want to offer more holistic and effective resources to the network we’ve been building of like-minded individuals and churches  in the Vineyard. You’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the coming months and at the Vineyard National Conference in July!

As a missional church movement, we look to model our lives after Jesus’s mission to planet earth and all humanity:

God’s Spirit is on me;
he’s chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor,
Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and
recovery of sight to the blind,
To set the burdened and battered free,
to announce, “This is God’s year to act!”

He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the assistant, and sat down. Every eye in the place was on him, intent. Then he started in, “You’ve just heard Scripture make history. It came true just now in this place.”  (Luke 4:18-21)

To accomplish this mission, we want to remember the particular way this commission has been embodied within the Vineyard movement.  Check out John Wimber’s inspiring and re-centering article here.*
