We’re diving into key issues like how to decide which local anti-trafficking organizations to partner with, how to coordinate with local law enforcement when engaging with street outreach, and how to harness your church’s existing ministries to fight trafficking (and not add yet another ministry to the mix!).
Cheryl Pittluck will moderate the discussion with global anti-trafficking expert Sandie Morgan and community life pastor James Menephee.
A little more about the presenters:
Sandie Morgan, PhD, RN | Director, Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University: Sandie is recognized globally for her expertise on combatting human trafficking and working to end violence against women. She began her anti-trafficking work in Athens, Greece where she served on the Board of the Athens International Nurses Association. She has also served as the Administrator of the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) before returning full-time to Vanguard in order to extend global impact and build capacity for research, education and advocacy directly related to the exploitation of women and children. She partners with the University of Duhok, Iraq to build capacity for women’s equality and provide resources for community and law enforcement training in the region. As Director of Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women and Justice (GCWJ), she oversees the Women’s Studies Minor as well as teaching Family Violence and Human Trafficking.
James Menephee | Community Life Pastor, Sugarland Vineyard: James is the Community Life Pastor and oversees small group ministries along with compassion and enfolding. A native Houstonian, he was a youth and worship pastor in Nebraska, and has been serving the Vineyard since 2013. In his free time he enjoys aviation, martial arts and learning languages.
Cheryl Pittluck | Social Justice Pastor, Anaheim Vineyard: Cheryl runs the Anti-Human Trafficking Ministry at the Anaheim Vineyard, has worked with the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force for the last 4 years, is on the board for the Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA. and is a Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAAST) Hands That Heal trainer. She has discovered that speaking on Fair Trade and ethical consumerism is a great way to introduce the topic of human trafficking to younger children, and speaks on it. However, her passion is HT prevention and sees the training and mentoring of at risk youth as a key component. She is the social justice pastor at the Anaheim Vineyard and is married to Lance Pittluck, the Senior Pastor.
